If you are serving or about to serve, this story is for you. It happened on August 2025, in Anambra State. A female corps member named Jennifer Elohor was beaten, stripped, and dragged away by some vigilante men. Below is everything NYSC family needs to know, told in the simplest way.
What Really Happened?
The Arrival of the Vigilantes
- Around 6:30 a.m., some men wearing black shirts with “Anambra Vigilante” written on them broke into the corpers’ lodge in Awka South.
- They said they were looking for “face-mask thieves”.
- They did not knock. They pushed the door open with boots.
What They Did to Jennifer
- They shouted at Jennifer to come out of her room.
- When she asked, “Who are you?” they slapped her.
- Two men held her hands, another pulled her dress, and they dragged her outside.
- Neighbours (other corps members (NYSC Applauds Kwara State for Demoting Teacher Who Assaulted Corps Member)) started recording with phones, so the vigilantes also took two other corpers away.
Why Did They Target Jennifer?
The vigilantes later told the police that:
- Someone wearing a “youth corper T-shirt” was seen the night before taking…… ?
- Jennifer was the only corper seen challenging……. them the next morning ?
- They did not ask questions first. They just acted on the rumour ?

1. What the NYSC Did
- The Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekuma, arrived at the vigilante office before noon.

- NYSC gave Jennifer and the two others medical checks that same day.
- A camp clinic doctor treated Jennifer for bruises and shock.
2. What the Government Did
- The Anambra State Governor, in a press release, called the act “unacceptable”.
- He ordered the State Commissioner of Police (Tragic Loss: Police Arrest 26 Suspects Over the Killing of NYSC Corps Member in Plateau) to arrest the vigilantes involved.
- By nightfall, three vigilantes were already in police custody.
3. Support for Jennifer
- NYSC gave Jennifer one week leave to rest.
- A lawyer from the NYSC Legal Aid Team is following the case.
- The Corps Welfare Office is paying her hospital bills.
