Trouble Brews! Nigerians Threaten to Scrap NYSC if ₦77,000 Allowance Isn’t Paid!

You heard it right! There’s serious anger in the air! People are saying that if the government doesn’t pay us (NYSC Corp Members) the promised ₦77,000 allowance, they should just shut down the entire NYSC scheme. This is a serious matter we’re discussing!

Why the Uproar?

You know how things are in Nigeria, right? Transportation costs have skyrocketed, and the price of food items is through the roof. So, the ₦33,000 we were receiving before barely covers anything. Imagine spending money to get to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) and contributing to Community Development Service (CDS), what’s left? Are you supposed to survive on peanuts?

Has NYSC Become a Hardship Program?

Some people are questioning whether NYSC has become a program where people simply suffer. How can someone be serving their country and yet be subjected to such hardship, as if they’ve committed a crime? The government needs to take urgent action!

What’s the Government Saying?

The NYSC Director General (DG) stated that the ₦77,000 allowance would begin to be paid from February 2025. He claimed that the government had already approved it. But the reality is, we’re already in February, and we haven’t seen anything! That’s why people are so upset.

What Happens if the Government Doesn’t Pay?

If the government fails to pay the ₦77,000, some people are suggesting that NYSC should be scrapped altogether. They argue that it’s better to not participate at all than to endure suffering while serving. But NYSC is beneficial! It helps us learn new things, meet new people, and serve our country. So, we don’t want it to be scrapped.

My Fellow Corp Members, What Should We Do?

My people, let’s be patient. But let’s not allow the government to forget about us. Let’s use social media to constantly remind them of their promise of ₦77,000. Let’s not give up until they pay us our money!

Remember, we are the future of Nigeria! We deserve better treatment. ₦77,000 is our right!
